Growing up in Switzerland, a country with no film school at the time, I discovered my passion for photography whilst serving a four-year apprenticeship in a Zurich fashion and commercial photographic studio after which I moved to England to teach photography at the Bath Academy of Art. After a year as Artist in Residence at the University of Ottawa, Canada, I returned to Switzerland and started in the film industry as stills photographer, then camera assistant, progressing quickly to cinematography. For many years I worked as Director of Photography throughout Continental Europe, the Americas, Africa and Asia until the language, culture and outstanding quality of performance and writing drew me back to the UK where I am now based.
In recent years I have been awarded an EMMY for ‘Little Dorrit’, an RTS Award for ‘See No Evil’ and BAFTA nominations for ‘Wallender’ and ‘Garrow’s Law’.
